During the tour, she sat down for an interview with a Canadian talk show, and fans couldn’t help but point out her swollen face. The actress was called several names ranging from “cow” to “pig” which got to her forcing her to issue a response through an article she wrote for The Daily Beast in 2012.
Ashley Judd’s Response to the Rumors
The Hollywood icon wrote, “We are described and detailed, our faces and bodies analyzed and picked apart, our worth ascertained and ascribed based on the reduction of personhood to simple physical objectification … As an actor and woman who, at times, avails herself to the media, I am painfully aware of the conversation about women’s bodies, and it frequently migrates to my own body.”
According to her, she responded to the accusations “because the conversation was pointedly nasty, gendered and misogynistic and embodies what all girls and women in our culture … endure every day.”
Wynonna Judd’s sister then claimed that the puffy face was a result of a heavy dose of prednisone that she was using to cure an illness. Later, we were told that the illness was a sinus infection by her spokesperson.
Fans Came the Aid of Ashley Judd
Many of her fans who had used prednisone in the treatment of various illnesses came to the defense of their idol. One fan, in particular, claimed that she had to quit school as a result of weight gain from taking the drug.
This started an online campaign where several people posted pictures of themselves before and after using prednisone. The pictures clearly showed significant swelling in their faces after using the steroids.
In another statement, the actress wrote about how the media subjects her and her female colleagues in the movie industry to intense scrutiny and lamented some of the unfortunate comments that have been printed about them. She wrote, “When my 2012 face looks different than it did when I filmed ‘Double Jeopardy’ in 1998, I am accused of having ‘messed up’ my face…with a passionate lament that ‘Ashley has lost her familiar beauty audiences loved her for”.
However, this fiery defense did not stop the Ashley Judd plastic surgery rumors from resurfacing a almost decade later.
