Britney Spears’ father agrees to step down as conservator
Britney Spears’s father, Jamie Spears, agreed to step down from his role as custodian of her fortune just weeks after her legal team petitioned him to be removed. Although the exact timing of this transition remains unclear.
The singer’s lawyer says that he is still investigating the circumstances of the long-term guardianship.
This turn of events was taken after Britney’s emotional speech on June 23rd. She confessed to the judge that in fact she was very unhappy and that guardianship was offensive to her, as it interfered with the full life of an adult woman.
Spears’ legal team later petitioned for the appointment of Jason Rubin as the successor to the custodian of the Spears estate.
Jamie Spears’ lawyer Vivian Thoreen has filed a response to a petition to remove him. They deny the allegations of wrongdoing and argue that there is no reason to remove the father from the guardian position, although they say that they will not push too hard.
No final decisions have been made yet and it is obvious that the hearings will continue.
The next hearing of this petition is scheduled for September 29th.
