Megan responds to Drake
Shortly after the album was released, Megan responded on Twitter, asking other artists to “stop using [her] shot for clout. She asked why it was acceptable to joke about women being shot.
“Ready to boycott bout shoes and clothes but dog pile on a black woman when she say one of y’all homeboys abused her,” Megan wrote, creating a parallel to the outcry that followed Kanye West’s antisemitic remarks.
Alexis Ohanian claps back
Megan Thee Stallion is not the only public figure that spoke out against Drake’s newest disses.
On “Middle of the Ocean,” the rapper disses Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, husband to tennis superstar Serena Williams.
“Sidebar, Serena your husband a groupie,” Drake raps.
In a Twitter thread about investment and success, Ohanian said that being a groupie isn’t such a bad thing.
“The reason I stay winning is because I’m relentless about being the absolute best at whatever I do – including being the best groupie for my wife and daughter,” Ohanian wrote.
Serena responded to her husband with several heart emojis.
Kanye West stays neutral
On “Circo Loco,” Drake rapped “Linking with the opps, b****, I did that s*** for J. Prince/B****, I did it for the Mob Ties.” Drake is saying that he performed alongside Kanye West at the Free Larry Hoover Benefit Concert to mend their relationship.
Ye responded on Twitter and chose to not respond negatively to the diss.
“Enough already. I done gave this man his flowers multiple times. Let’s really see who are real ops are in this music game. Imagine all the rappers on the same side and everyone cleaning up each others contracts. It’s kingdom time. Love Drake #lovespeech,” Kanye wrote.
Ice Spice is a ten, nonetheless
New and upcoming rapper, Ice Spice, was also hinted at on the album.
On BackOutsideBoyz, Drake raps: “She a ten tryna rap, it’s good on mute.” [sic]
The artist doesn’t mention Ice Spice or allude to her, but she felt the jab was directed towards her nonetheless.
“At least ima 10,” Ice Spice wrote, alongside shrugging and laughting emojis
“Her loss” has received mixed critical reviews. Rolling Stone called it “misfire that Drake will hopefully learn from.” While Variety says that “Drake rediscovers his sense of play with strategic assists from 21 Savage.”
