George Clooney speaks about his proposal: “It was a disaster”

George Clooney described his proposal to Amal as a “disaster,” in an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show.” His now wife, thought that the 7-carat ring George used to propose used to belong to one of his ex-girlfriends.

“It was a disaster, I planned it out, I planned the whole thing out,” the George said. “I’ve got the ring in a little drawer behind her, I’ve made dinner and we had only been dating for about six months.”

The actor planned for Amal to grab something from the drawer where she would find the ring. He made sure that “Why Shouldn’t I,” a song by his aunt, Rosemary Clooney, was playing.

The night took a turn for the worse when Amal found the ring but came to the wrong conclusion. She thought that it belonged to one of Clooney’s ex-girlfriends.

“She kind of pulls this thing out, this little drawer, and there’s a diamond ring in there,” George continued and added that Amal scoffed at the site of the gem.

“And she looks at it and she’s like, ‘Uh there’s a ring in there.’ Like somebody left a ring there years ago. And I’m like on my knee…,” he joked while rolling his eyes.

After 20 minutes of Amal saying “‘Oh my God, Oh my God,’” she finally said “yes.”

The wedding

The couple got married just five months after the proposal. They invited their closest friends and family in a lavish ceremony in Venice, Italy. The ceremony was held in the luxury Aman hotel that overlooks the spectacular Grand Canal.

George Clooney, a father of two

George and Amal share 5-year-old twins named Ella and Alexander. The couple’s good will to teach their kids a second language backfired on them.

“We’ve made a terrible mistake,” George told Gayle King in an interview. “We taught them Italian.”

“But we don’t speak Italian. So, we’ve armed them with a language they can harm us with. And we both don’t really know what they’re saying,” the actor added. “I’m from Kentucky. English is my second language.”
