The early life of Billie Eilish
Born Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell in Los Angeles, California, to actress and voice-over artist, Maggie Baird and actor Patrick O’Connell, Eilish was conceived via in vitro fertilization. Eilish is a Sagittarius as her mother, Maggie Baird, had her birth, on December 18, 2001.
Raised in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, the “Lovely” singer is of Irish and Scottish descent and was raised by her two parents, both of whom are also musicians and have ties with the music industry.
Billie Eilish was homeschooled and taught the basics of songwriting by her mother, Maggie Baird, and has often said it was her mother and older brother, Finneas O’Connell, that inspired her to get into music.
Billie Eilish co-writes the majority of her music with her older brother, Finneas, who is also a talented musician that writes and produces most of her songs including Eilish’s first hit single ‘Ocean Eyes’.
Journey into Stardom
Billie Eilish first began toying with music at the age of six by learning to play the ukulele. By the time she was eight, she had started to perform at talent shows and joined the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus.
While participating in her mother’s songwriting class, Billie Eilish wrote her first “real” song at age 11 about a Zombie apocalypse, inspired by the television series The Walking Dead, taking script lines and episode titles for the song from the TV series.
Perhaps in trying to take after her father, Patrick O’Connell, footsteps, Eilish was once influenced to try acting and even took on some acting auditions but ended up disliking the art before finding her voice in music.
Billie Eilish reportedly also took dance classes until 2016 when she had a plate injury that put an end to her dancing career.
The O’Connell siblings
With several award-winning including multiple Grammys, Billie Eilish has no doubt made a name for herself as a singer but she’s not the only famous member of her family.
Her viral debut single, “Ocean Eyes” which broke several International music charts was released in 2018 when Eilish was just 17. Interestingly, the hit single was written by Billie’s elder brother, Finneas O’Connell, who goes by the stage name Finneas.Embed from Getty Images
Although O’Connell originally wrote the hit tune to be played by his music band, he gave it to Billie Eilish to record the song instead so that her dance teacher could choreograph a contemporary dance to it, but the siblings liked the song so much that they ended up uploading it to SoundCloud. On Soundcloud, the song started gaining traction and attention from record labels to buy the rights for the song before it was released worldwide through Interscope Records.
Finneas has also helped Billie write and produce most of her music including producing all 14 tracks of her debut ep, When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?
Billie Eilish’s impressive career has since grown so much from the days of uploading music on SoundCloud to becoming the youngest musician to write and record a James Bond theme song, “No Time To Die ”, going ahead to win the Oscar for Best Song award for the record.
Billie Eilish is also the youngest person to get the prestigious tag of winning the “triple crown” which stands for winning an Oscar, Grammy, and Golden Globe award.
As much as we all enjoy the unfolding of Billie Eilish’s dazzling career as one of this generation’s youth sensations, many are still curious to learn more about her personal life, especially her dating history.
