Rihanna to have the performance of a lifetime!
Rihanna is performing at Super Bowl’s Halftime Show. For many artists, this is a performance of a lifetime, taking into consideration the magnitude of the event, viewership and legacy.
Next Super Bowl will be held on February 12 2023, in Glendale Arizona. This will be the first year with Apple Music as a primary sponsor. Pepsi held that title before.
“We’re excited to partner with Rihanna, Roc Nation and the N.F.L. to bring music and sports fans a momentous show,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president for Apple Music and Beats.
To confirm the news, Rihanna shared on Instagram an image of her hand holding a football. She wrote a single dot as the caption.
Rihanna and her guests
Reportedly, Rihanna is considering inviting a number of guest performers onstage with her. Her team and she have compiled a thorough list of all the people she could bring over to perform. The list has almost 50 possible names. Sources confirm that everyone Rihanna’s ever collaborated is possibly on the list.
Who has Rihanna collaborated with
The nine-time Grammy winner has collaborated with Sir Paul McCartney, Kanye West, Britney Spears, Coldplay, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, SZA, Bono, Jay-Z, Drake, and Nicki Minaj.
All these artists are contenders to share the stage with the singer. But, since Rihanna is such a star and has a massive catalogue of songs, not inviting anyone is also a very viable possibility.
“A generational talent”
Jay-Z, whose agency Roc Nation, is an executive producer for the half-time show, said that Rihanna is a generational talent in a statement.
“Rihanna is a generational talent, a woman of humble beginnings who has surpassed expectations at every turn,” he said. “A person born on the small island of Barbados who became one of the most prominent artists ever. Self-made in business and entertainment.”
Rihanna is one of the bestselling female artists of all time. Throughout her career, she has sold more than 250 million records worldwide.
The first opportunity
This is not the first time that Rihanna’s name is linked to the NFL Super Bowl half-time show. Back in 2019, she rejected the opportunity to perform, opportunity that ultimately was accepted by Maroon 5.
In an interview with Vogue, Rihanna said that she turned down the opportunity in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick who protested police brutality against Black people and minorities by kneeling during the national anthem.
“I couldn’t dare do that. For what?” Rihanna said. “Who gains from that? Not my people. I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler. There’s things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.”
RiRi’s last performance
Rihanna’s last performance was more than four years ago at the Grammy Awards in 2018. Along with Dj Khaled and Bryson Tiller, she performed the hit “Wild Thoughts.”
She scored only one nomination that year for “Loyalty” with Kendrick Lamar, but didn’t win.
The last album
“Anti” was the artists eighth and last album. Released in 2016, the album received mixed to positive reviews from critics and achieved to get nominated for six Grammy Awards, including Best R&B Song. Unfortunately, the committee didn’t see “Anti” as a winner in any of the categories and Rihanna ended the night empty-handed.
Is the new album ever coming?
Rihanna is so beloved that ever since she released “Anti,” her fans has been asking relentlessly for new music. She promises the new album will be ready in a few months, then a few months pass and nothing happens. It’s almost an inside joke between her and her fans. They ask for new music, she says she’s working on it, nothing happens.
It seems as RiRi is finally working on her promise. She was spotted publicly at a recording studio for the first time in nearly a year on September 15th. She went back on the 17th, the 18th and the 24th. In total, four times in two weeks. What else could have happened inside a recording studio besides recording music. She knew her fans were going to see the pictures and maybe that was the purpose of being so public about it.
Rihanna and her baby boy
Rihanna and rapper A$AP Rocky welcomed their first child together on May of this year. Since giving birth, Rihanna took a break from work and focused completely on her new baby. She was on maternity leave until recently, but from the new information we have gathered, that time is now nearing its end.
The Super Bowl half-time performance is less than four months away and the preparation must be long and hard. Also, the frequent visits to the studio must amount to a project of some sort.
