Shakira faces trial over alleged £13m tax evasion and could serve jail time if found guilty

A Spanish judge has ruled that Shakira must face trial for allegedly evading €14.5m (£13m) in tax. She was accused of six offenses by Spanish prosecutors and could face jail time if she is found guilty.

Prosecutors claim that the star singer stopped paying taxes in Spain in 2012, 2013, and 2014.

However, Shakira claims that between 2012 and 2014, her residence was in the Bahamas so she was exempt from paying Spanish Income Tax.

The pop star singer has been in a relationship with Barcelona footballer Gerard Piqué and they share two sons together.
